Default Question of the Week: Should the Ram 1500 come with a manual transmission option?

It is as simple as that...since the introduction of the 4th gen Ram 1500, only the SRT10 has been offered with a manual transmission but Hemi owners like myself want a manual transmission option. Do you think that Chrysler should offer a manual transmission for a non-high performance edition Ram 1500?

False, the 3.7L V6 and the 4.7L V8 were offered with the NV3500 trans.
What all model years I don't know, at least until 2005, if not later.

I looked around and Ive been unable to find anything that shows that there was a non-diesel, non-Viper powered Ram offered after the end of the second generation with a manual trans. I know that the 2g Rams used the NV3500 but I cannot find anything about them being used after the second generation. The last half ton trucks that I recall for sure were the late 2nd gen 5.9 "work truck" models that were stripped down with the 360, a manual trans and a heavy duty suspension.

The 2003 factory service manual states clearly so. And I personally have seen 2004 Rams with the 4.7 with a manual as well as 3.7's.

*edit*
less than 2 minutes of googling came up with this:

Dude has a 5 speed. lol

more googling...

They're hard to find, but they're out there.

*edit two*
I hate to say it, Mr. Admin, but to me, your argument is officially dead. lol

My "argument" had less to do with the fact of when they stopped offering it and more with the fact that people still want it...but I can make changes in my first post as needed. i certainly dont claim to know every single fact about every dodge vehicle made...just most of them.

So its looking like what, 2008 was the final year for a 1500 manual transmission, non srt?

Ironically, I dont search the forums when looking for facts like what came equipped with what. After all, I have a 340/727 powered Mirada but Chrysler never built one with that drivetrain.

Alright.
Yeah, looks like 2008, since 4th gen came out in 09.

I shall rest now.
Apologies if I came off as obnoxious.

alright...i fixed the initial post. i think that i recall that we did have a mod for a while with a V6 3rd gen with a manual transmission but im sure that ive never seen a 3rd gen V8 manual transmission truck in person.

when i worked as a mechanic, i had a regular customer with a 2g ram with a 360 and manual transmission but i dont know for a fact that he didnt install it himself. he had some minor work done to it like headers, exhaust and gears and that truck was a blast to drive...although the super long shifter was a bit bus-like. when you would powershift that truck, it would put a serious smoking to the tires. it started as a beat up work truck and ended up a reasonably quick beat up work truck.

Why wouldn't Dodge offer this vehicle with a manual transmission? Having both transmission versions would allow more drivers to experience the full range of the vehicle's capabilities---and would probably draw more buyers to it as well...

Should offer at least a five speed. Six would be nice. Its actually the only reason im considering a Toyota instead of a new ram.

EVERY truck should come with a manual transmission option.

When I bought my truck (new), I specifically asked my son-in-law (who I bought the truck from) about a stick shift. He said they called it a B-word combination, because they were so hard to find. Only 10% of the fleet was made with stick shifts, from 06-08 as I understand it. We asked on DT before and the answer we got was "customers want automatics". I don't know who they asked, 'cuz they didn't ask me.
I've even researched some options, as I'd still like to convert my truck. NV3500s are available for about $1200, including core cost. Get a clutch, flywheel, and pedals, cut a hole in the floor and you're nearly done. (okay, there's more to it than that....) A T56 runs $2200-$2800, depending upon whose you buy. With the T56 it's better to get 4.56 gears; most I've seen have a 0.50 6th gear. G238s are still in stock at Dodge, for $2200 or so. I think it'll work best with 3.21 gears...'cuz 6th is a 0.78, higher than the 545RFE's 4th, unless you tow a lot. (I don't) NV4500s are also plentiful, but I was told it might require raising the body higher above the frame...because the tranny case is so tall.

@TomA: AMEN brother!

Come on RAM trucks, throw us a bone. Better yet, add a 0.70 7th gear to the G238 while you're at it, or give us a 7sp T56. If I'm gonna dream, might as well dream big.

Default Of Course!

I would buy it. I would much rather have a Manual option than be stuck with an automatic!

Default Manual Transmission

Absolutely, is it a real truck without at least having the option of a stick shift?

I'm for the manual transmissions. Is it really a truck if it doesn't have a gearshift and three pedals to work?

Also much less of a headache when the vehicle is getting to be 20 years old.

Just keep offering 6spd's in the diesel's until I can afford to buy one new please.

I believe every vehicle should come with a manual though, people who drive sticks pay more attention.

^^^ Because some of us enjoy our vehicles, unlike the brainwashed masses that view them as simply a transportation appliance.
