Default Chrysler's Threat to Start Shutting Down after March 17th Reality or Myth?

According to an article today in CNN Money, Chrysler has told the federal government:

"The company said in its turnaround plan that it would need the money by March 17 or else it would run out of cash and have to start the process of shutting down its business."

"the money" refers to the $5 billion loan it asked for last month. Do y'all think they're just bluffing or are they really hurting that bad? (we all know they're hurting bad, but is it bad enough to throw in the towel?) I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

If they did start shutting everything down, who knows, there might only be a few '09 Rams on the road....

It would be interesting to hear Fiat's take on this.

I'll try to wait until the end of the month to buy mine.

Might get better discounts in april, if chrysler is still selling trucks, of course, and we might know a little more about what the future has in store for the big 3.

That's a good question. If Chrysler files Chapter 7 we may be SOL. If they file Chapter 11, then we will most likely be OK. If they're trying to reorganize and still stay alive as a company and sell vehicles, then they'll need to honor existing warranties or that would be suicide. In all reality I would guess they at least give Chapter 11 a chance. Or maybe they can just sell the Ram (factory, plans, parts & all) to Nissan?

I live in Fort Worth, TX and I am starting to see a nice number of 09 Rams out on the road. I was at a stop light last week and saw two drive by going opposite directions. The 09 accounted for 20% of the light truck sales in February, ( I really bet that was "Dodge" including the 08s). That was good enough to outsell the 09 F150 and was Dodge's best month percentage wise in several years.

HELL YEAH! GO DODGE!

Now, with that said, the F150 is a very nice looking truck on the outside and it's also very capable from a towing perspective. However, I think they try to make the interior look way too "tough" and it just looks like crap and their 5.4L engine is a piece of underpowered garbage. Plus, Dodge's huge incentives and markdowns have helped push trucks.

I too have seen quite a few '09s around town. Saw two next to me on Mopac north on the way home (3 '09 Ram's side by side on the highway).

And in regards to MaxCare, I don't know how that works. Is it through Chrysler or a 3rd party? It might be considered like an insurance policy and underwritten?

I'm in Texas so you mostly see the Big 3 trucks. Toyota had a pretty strong "Made in Texas" marketing campaign for the Tundra so there are also quite a few of those. I refuse to even consider the Ridgeline a truck. And I don't really have anything against the Titan, but then again I owned a G35 coupe and don't really mind Nissan products.
