Default No more LifeTime Warranty

http://www.allpar.com/news/

Chrysler drops lifetime warrantyAugust 19th, 2009 by DaveAdmin
Chrysler is dropping its lifetime warranty from 2010 models, though it will remain on 2009 models. Instead, the company will provide a free 5 year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, which, instead of being transferable, is assigned to the car itself, so that anyone who buys a used 2010 Chrysler, Dodge, or Jeep second-hand, third-hand, etc., can get service without having to transfer the warranty.

The new 5/100 plan has no deductible. It is accompanied by the usual basic 3/36 warranty, 5/100 corrosion, coverage, and extendeded Federal emissions warranty.

Exceptions to the new warranty plan are the Sprinter (assembled by Freightliner from Mercedes kits), diesel-powered trucks, Sterling trucks, company car vehicles, Volkswagen Routan, and Mitsubishi Raider.

SRT vehicles and fleet vehicles (including police, postal, ambulance, and taxi) were not covered by the lifetime powertrain warranty, but will be covered by 5/100.

The change may have been spurred by the costs of paperwork and tracking of older vehicles with the lifetime warranty, and by customers’ cynicism about the lifetime plan.

this could very well be a good thing, because, ive had a few people tell me that the lifetime warranty, was a hassle, and that sometime wish that they just had the 5year 100,000 mile warranty. its gonna save chrysler quite a bit of money though.

It has only been around for 3 years, how much of a hassle can it be? Nobody has even had a vehicle long enough to have to take it in for the mandatory 5 yr inspection.
Many people only keep vehicles for a couple of years, so it would be cheaper for them to keep the LPW since it is not transferable.

as long as they honor the current cars that have them, it will be fine.

i just saw the chrysler warranty letter on this, and figured id fill everyone in. yes, theres no more lifetime powertrain (not sure if reminaing 2009's are affected). it is replaced by 5yr/100k mile. ALL vehicles are included except for diesels and sprinters, and something else (alldata or whatever it was in post #1 is correct). SRT, cab, limo, police...are included.

below is the quick & dirty of more in the letter:
liftime service contract will continue to be offered on remaining 2009 vehicles. vehicles still with basic 3/36 are eligible for life contract (normal exlcusions--SRT, diesel...). lifetime contract will soon be announced for 2010 vehicles.

when we start getting 2010s in at my dealer, ill run my VIN see if my life max care still applies. dont see why not as i paid for it.

the VW Routan still makes me chuckle. Its the EXACT same van, yet has a 3/36k power train warranty when the Caravans and T&C's had the lifetime.
