Default Fiat on the way

I wonder if the people holding these signs realized if it was not for them they would likely have no job at all????

NO these people are holding signs because they know fiat will keep killing jobs. Fiat isn't saving anybody. They want the dealer network. They are, and will continue to kill off the chrysler brands and vehicles. They are already cutting heads on the production floors. Fiat is no savior to chrysler. They are just the next undertaker.

I kinda have to feel for the average joe worker at Chrysler and GM. The management and union bosses have killed their competitiveness and now the wrench turners are suffering for it. How is it a foreign company can come here, build a factory, and turnout cars cheaper and better than we can?

But bottom line, if Fiat hadn't stepped in, Chrysler would have tanked already. Chrysler has got some really great cars coming out now, but is it too late to save the brand or is this the beginning of a wide spread phase out in exchange for the Fiat models?

I'd love to see what a 2014 Charger or Challenger would look like, but will these cars survive?

How do you figure there would be no chrysler? They have not put one dime into chrysler. They are not sharing any tech either. They will not be building any fiats here either. They will import them in. That is why these people are upset, fiat is coming to kill what we know as chrysler. They wanted the dealer network to sell their own junk. They will keep the ram, GC, wrangler, and caravan. Most everything is going to be phased out, and replaced with fiats, or alfas. Fiat is not the knight in shinning armour.

The problem is that fiat isnt going to kill jobs so much as theyre going to kill union jobs. its not an 1800s coat mine...the unions are only making matters worse for workers. ask the people building toyotas in this country. im pretty sure that they arent being tortured in the workplace...or getting killed daily...and having been in thr rouge plant, im less inclined to cry for the union worker and their "miserable working conditions" that warrant their high pay.

Uhh Pat they will not build here. They will IMPORT their stuff. That will mean American job loss. Union and non union us based suppliers. And about the rouge plant, how about you walk into a plant that hasn't been built in the past 5 years? How about the plant your truck came out of? Warren hasn't been updated in ohh about 50 years. The average temp in there during the summer is 110. And you can see a haze of filth in the air in body shop, and in chassis. Also I have taken that same tour, and noticed they miss most of the "bad" parts of the line. they show you what they want. If people seen how some of the stuff really happens they would never buy a vehicle again!

when we were in the rouge plant, we didnt go on the tour that they send all of the "in off the street" people. we got to be down on the line(s). im fairly certain that i went through every portion of the line, except for the painting area.

I do understand that the rouge plant is new and is packed full of things to make it hospitable, but i cant imagnie the union letting people work anywhere that the average temp is 110 degrees.

Id love to tour one of the dodge plants...especially the truck plant. if that happened, would i see the rougher areas, or would they just drag me through the nicer areas and send me on my way? do you know if dodge offers any sort of media tours?

Not usually. Warren is such a dump they usually only let the public in during the launch of a new product. But it is not running, and they only allow you through certian parts of the plant. And yes it does get that hot in there. Even hotter if you are in the body shop. If you are in the body shop you can't wear shorts either, and you wear kevlar sleeves and gloves. I have seen many of guys go down because of heat stroke in there. There is no air cond on the floor. Only upstairs in the management offices. The glass plants and stamping plants get even hotter! I don't work there anymore(took the buyout), but if I hear of any tours going on I will let you know.
