Personally, I saw this coming a long time ago. Even before last month's totm. there just wasn't enough participation amongst the members. This forum has what, over 100K members? That's something to be proud of. Now, I know only about 25% of that 100K is made up of active members. I kinda like the idea of breaking OTM down into the subforums, but once again, I see participation issues. The ram and Dak sections would really be the only active polls. The Durango section might, but I dunno. I have some other thoughts that I am going to post over in the ideas section, once I get them put into a fairly understandable format in my mind. I honestly think it's a little sad that it did come to this, but I think it's the only real solution at this point. To some of you, that last statement might sound like the pot calling the kettle black. I don't for one second deny that even I was a little childish over June's OTM. Hell, all of us that were in active in it were acting like fools. This month's almost got that way, but it looked like it cooled off fairly quickly. (thanks derrik, and even you Pyro.)
Off to my thinking place.

I saw it coming, although it is sad. But there are too many arrogant members of this forum that will bitch about VOTING!!! Are they serious! I think that if anyone bitches about it, they will be permantially banned, no questions asked. It is sad that this month was going great, until the voting was over and people were getting mad over Miami with a near-stock truck winning over Blown's badass Dakota, saying that the voting was rigged and ****. This bull should not be tolerated!
OTMs are just taking a break. The mod staff is going to re organize and make it better.
Over the past few months, we have got a lot of feedback from the forum on how to make it better and more fun. So we are going to work on revamping this section and make it better for everyone.
Dont think of it as going away, think of it as going to rehab or something. lol
I really dont think you should hide the voting poll, people need to see who's winning and what not and plus some people base their votes on it lol. I really think that you guys should open OTM back up even for this month and just try it out disabling the chat. I really think that it'll make all the difference. If people want to bitch, they can bitch in their own sections forums and just make a sticky that if they start cross forum bitching about OTM they will be banned for a week or two each time.

I have been behind hiding the votes since it was brought up a while back. I like it because it allows peoples emotions to stay out of it if there is a close race. And if someone was behind by 10 votes, they still stand a chance. Some votes are determined if there is a huge lead by 2 individuals. there is a greater chance for someone to vote for one of those 2 rather then vote for the underdog, who might still have a chance on a comeback.
And I am not sure if getting rid of chat is going to change anything, because people will still have a thread in there Gen section that they could just as easily bash in. IMO I think that limiting it to 1 line might not allow people to go into detail and just give them a chance to say a few supporting words. But at the same time if there is bashing still going on to put an immediate 1 week ban for the first offense and 2 week ban for the second will be enough encouragement not to get out of control.
Hidden voting works really well on some other sites, but for us, it's a software issue, this version of VB doesn't have it for whatever reason. Getting the tect guys to do anything is like pulling teeth... ROTM will return, but for the moment, it's on hiatus.

I think hiding the votes is a bad idea. The main reason this month's TOTM generated the interest it did was because Blown and I were so close. I started out early with a 10 vote lead, but as that dwindled down and we started going back and forth with the lead, it really heated up. I didn't look in the Dak or other gen forums, but the 2nd gen forum was buzzing. The 2 threads we had going on TOTM were constantly on the front page and much of the discourse brought many of us closer together as members. That has to be a good thing. As was said, it was pretty civilized until one douche decided to crap all over it. Prior to that it was a very respectful competition and I know there's no hard feelings between Blown and I. In the end, there's no big prize, no money and nothing more at stake beyond a little forum prestige. To get all bent out of shape over TOTM is to be childishly ridiculous.
