I'm looking to buy a 1969 Charger to restore. I found one in Philadelphia (http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/cto/4848511149.html) that looks like it has way too much rust for the asking price. I'm just shopping around at this point and I'm not yet seriously considering buying this car. But I just want to know, in general, would a car with this much rust be worth restoring, assuming I was able to get the price down? Is there anyone here that's done a restoration that could give me some advice?
$9500.00 is an absurd asking price. You will spend at least $2,000.00 for a driver quality job on the body work. Paint work alone cost me $17,000.00 on my R/T that was in great shape and no rust.

Reason: missed a zero
$9500 is definitely absurd for that and I would never pay that much for a Charger in that quality. And **** $17,000 for paint? I've never had to paint a car, but is that normal or did you do something special?
Well you can get just about any rust repail panels you need for Chargers but this pic of the rust underneath is a major concern. No pics of the rear quarters either(probably rusted out also). Way to much for the condition!!!
That's exactly why I posted here. I pretty much knew it would be too much to repair but I figured I might as well ask. For future reference, could I get away with body rust as long as it isn't on the frame? How difficult is it to fix holes in body panels?

It was taken apart, stripped to bare metal, media blasted and block sanded multiple times, painted and wet sanded. He did a great job and honestly I would have paid twice that amount for his work. A car can be painted for far less, but it would be a 20 feet car.
WAAYYY too much. Problem nowadays is people watch Mecum or Barret-Jackson on TV and think their crapped out rustbucket ****box is worth a mint because they saw an original or restored one go for a pretty penny on TV.

Depends on where it is. AMD makes all the panels you need. I think it was chop cut rebuild did a complete charger body with reproduction panels including the roof. Only way to fix the rotted out frame (in pic) is to get one from a donor car and that is a lot of work. This guy is crazy if he thinks he will get a fraction of his asking price. Only way some one would save this is if it was a rare hemi or 440 6 pack car.
