I have three in my yard, I'm running two in my grain trucks, and I pulled one and pinched the crank for a 340 for a bud. cool engines, not enough displacement for me.

 

Although they say displacement is everything, you can get one of these polys over 400 CID!

Your buddy won't be able to break that crank - it's forged!

Hi, I just joined your COOL SITE as66fury3toy. I hope I'm in the right area to ask this question. Can or will someone please tell me or show me the type of 4 barrel carb that might have sat on top of a'66 318 Poly cast iron 4barrelintake? I've acquired an intake and would like to find thefactory type carb to install on it.

 

It was a Carter, I believe - a 500 CFM Edelbrock should do the trick. They bought Carter's casting stuff and started making them (with obvious improvements) under the Edelbrock name years ago. You're probably looking nor no more than a 500 CFM carb - maybe a downjetted 600 CFM one.

I have a 66 Coronet with the Poly 318. Mine has only 2 bolts thru the center portion of the valve covers to mount them. All the parts stores are giving me valve cover gaskets with holes for 5 mounting bolts. Am I going to have to make my own or use silicone or does someone have a part number for the correct ones. Maybe you use the 5 hole ones as is and ignore the extra holes ????

 

A engines like the '57 - '62 318 Polys have 3-bolt valve covers. A engines like the '62 - '66 (and '67 in Canada only) 318 Polys use 2-bolt valve covers.

LA 318s ('67+ - basically poked & stroked 273s) have the 5-bolt valve covers.

The valve cover gaskets you need are available from NAPA, Fel-Pro brand, no less, and the listing on them should say something about the years "'57 - '66", as all 318 Polys, 2-bolt or 3-bolt valve covers, use the same valve cover gaskets.

Seriously - all the stuff you need can be bought at NAPA.

Thanks I got your email and ordered to correct parts. Id also like some custom valve covers, either aluminum or chrome steel and having no luck. Herbs Parts lists them, but no longer carries them. Anyone...new or nice used ? I may end up just painting mine with crinkle finish like on Hemis.
