Default Demon kickdown (compensator rod)

Alright I had my '71 Demon in the shop for a few repairs for leaks in the main seal and transmission (old gaskets) and was told that I am missing the compensator rod or kickdown gear selector. I read a while back that driving without this linkage could do serious damage to the tranny (it is an automatic). Can anyone verify this?
Thanks,
FF

That is correct, you should find the correct unit for the carb you are running and install it.
