Welcome to the forum.

What size do you have now? 215/60r16? The 70 series will be a bit taller and may rub on the front when turning.

I meant 17, that's what ours has.

A good tire shop will test fit one for you I would think.

They are a bit over 1/2" taller so they may rub on the front.

No, you can NOT put a 16" tire on a 17" Rim. The Tire is too small. And they are not stretchable.

Like I said, I would test fit one on the front since the tires are at least 1/2 inch taller and may rub when turning.

Then it is a complete different set of wheel, you just have to test fit it like lxman said. Some wheel have different bolt pattern, and some have different off set that might not clear the brake or the suspension.

I put 215/70 x 16 on my 2007, they work out fine, no rubbing at all, but they do make the car bounce around a bit more.

Question Tires upsizing

First: I've had my 2007 Caliber since (almost) new. No serious problems-- only major repairs were replacing some front end parts. 130,000 miles now. Love this vehicle.

My only complaint is the handling, which has always been a little sloppy. The front end rebuild helped, but, since it's time to replace the tires, I'd like to upsize the tire size.

At a great website, https://tiresize.com/comparison/, you can see and compare specifications for different sizes. The stock tires are 215 60 17. I'm considering 235 45 17, and 225 55 17. These are small changes, but both are slightly wider tires (the latter is also slightly smaller diameter). I expect this change will mean better cornering, with a slight increase in ride roughness and perhaps a minor inaccuracy in speedometer reading.

Any thoughts on whether either or both of these sizes will work? I can't "try out different sizes" on it, since I'm ordering the tires shipped in, and I have to pay $15 per wheel for mounting and balancing.
