Default 2009 Calibur sxt

My wife has a 2009 calibur sxt and it has been making a whine sound she says it sounds like a remote control car. it makes this sound when accelerating and today the temp light came on and when she came to a stop the whine sound continued and when she started to accelerate the engine bogged down it did not die only bogged down. I checked the transmission coolant level and it was only an inch low in the reseerve bottle. any ideas what this could be? Thank you for any help anyone can give.

Please state relevant facts such as engine size, mileage, transmission, etc. Are you referring to the radiator overflow bottle when you say you checked the "transmission coolant" level. Although the transmission fluid does use the radiator to cool the transmission, I'm not surfe there is a transmmission coolant bottle. You need to check the actual transmission level via the transmission dipstick.

No trans fluid check. It must be done with a scan tool at the dealer if it is a CVT trans.
It may need the trans serviced depending on the mileage on the car. It could also be the decoupler pulley on the alternator.
I am thinking that when the temp go too high, the computer put itself into limp mode which will pull power from the engine to try to keep from damaging anything.
The overheating could be from a bad waterpump, stuck thermostat or two (it has two).

Need more info. Did you buy it new? If so, it should have a lifetime powertrain warranty. Our 09 does. It covers thermostats and waterpumps.

Oh, and welcome to the forum.
