Default Caliber gas mileage

I have been researching the Caliber. Seems right for me in alot of ways. But I cannot seem to find out what the gas mileage is. Can anyone fill me in?

Thanks in advance!

This really depends on your engine choice. According to KBB (Kelly Blue Book), the 1.8/2.0 gets 27 city, 32 highway, and the 2.4 liter gets 23 city, 26 highway. Now remember, these are EPA estimates which are usually wrong what from I've seen in the cars I've bought. The 1.8 and 2.0 liter are ONLY avaliable in the SE and SXT and you can ONLY get the 2.4 liter in the R/T. The 2.0 is optional in both the SE and SXT and has to include the CVT2 Transmission. Only the 1.8 liter can house the 5 speed manual.

Also gas milage depends on how much of a heavy foot you have. the 1.8 or 2.0 liter estimates can easily turn into the estimates of the 2.4 liter if you have a heavy foot.

Well remember those SRT-4 specs are for "normal" driving. Like who the hell drives an SRT-4 normally? I would say the SRT-4 average is 22 MPG.

I test drove an R/T yesterday, and the onboard computer said it was getting 23.8 MPG, and considering that the route they take involves a lot of start/stop driving (going through a few intersections and making a lot of turns) that is pretty good.

Beats my Explorer's current 15.0!

Thats not too bad. Also remember that the gas milage will get better as you break the engine in. I would use synthetic oil (Mobil 1) in it to further protection and get even more milage.

Some of the early reports are showing it getting around 21MPG... but at least one noted it was mainly city driving.

Does Mobil 1 really help mileage? These cars are already using 5W oil for improved mileage.

I imagine it does help with milage some because its a thin oil (synthetic). Also it will help your engine last MUCH longer than some $2.00/quart oil. Its well worth the extra money in the long run. Plus, you can run it 6,000 miles. I ONLY put Mobil 1 oil in my '04 Stratus R/T Coupe and I run it 6500 miles before I change the oil and the oil comes out looking better than some $2 oil does brand new. I've had my car for 2 years and I've changed the oil 5 times and I'm coming up on my last oil change that this car will have from me as by the time it comes up again, the dealer will have it on the used car lot and I will hopefully have my new '07 Caliber SXT.

OK, I guess that makes the difference. I bought the "life time" oil change from the dealer. So long as I go back there 4 times a year (or less) the oil changes are free. I'll seldom get more than 2K in miles during that interval... though much of that is freeway driving.

I'm hoping the dealership lasts 4 years. <g> The oil certainly isn't needing changing at those periods.
