Default Fuel Control Unit

I have been looking through the postings trying to see if there was a posting already about this but have not found one. My problem is with my fuel gauge. It will not read. When I fill it up the gauge will read full for about 5 miles and then drop to empty. I took it to the shop and they told me it was the Fuel Control Unit. My question, since the mechanic was not at all helpful with the questions I asked him is: Can I replace this my self and where is it located.I have done work on my van before with and am capable of replacing parts. I am just not familiar with this part and its location if anyone can help it would be nice. I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan Sport 4 cylinder

mazdab2600 are you sure that it is not seperate. The way that the mechanic talked to me was that it was seperate and he was only going to be able to get the part from the dealrship he quoted me $200.00 installed to fix it.
