Default Fuel Gauge

This thread may have been brought up before but I have never seen it.
My 01 Dodge Caravan with 3.3 V6 fuel gauge seems to act up in hot
weather. What it did was, I started the engine and the fuel gauge came
up to where is was suppose to. I then heard a "ding" and when I looked
at the dash for what the ding was all about, the fuel gauge was at empty
and the ding was a warning I was low on fuel. I then seen the fuel gauge
go back to its normal mark (3/4 full), back to empty, back to normal,
to empty and back to normal and stayed there. It cycled so fast that
there was no time for the "ding" to sound or the fuel light to come
back on.

My wife (alias whip) is the main driver of that van and says this happens
from time to time only in hot weather...

It does not seem to be a problem in the fuel tanks sending unit or you would
think this would happen all the time.

Might anyone know what the problem might be OR what is about to happen?

Thanks for the FINE site! Bill in NW Ohio

My 98 Caravan is doing this too. It only does it in the first 1/4 tank of gas. Have you had any solutions yet? Lisa

Replace the fuel level sensor in the fuel tank, has an internal faulty connection.

next time this happens.. make sure that ALL the guages arent gone.. including the digital prnd21 and the odometer.. if they are.. its a solder connection on the back of the cluster u can do a search for that and it will tell you how to fix it.. other than that.. sounds like electrical.. check connection at the fuel pump.. and you might need to replace the level sensor on the pump.. bad news is.. its all in one.. ya gotta replace the whole thing
