Just got my car back from Firestone. They told me that all my tie rods need to replaced. The outter tie rods seem straight forward. However, I can't find any info on inner tie rods. I bought the inner tie rods online. Could anyone tell me how to replace them? FSM say that it is recommended to replace entire steering gear.
Thanks!

Inner's are less common to fail. I(f you are going to do both inners and outers on both side i'd recommend doing the entire rack assembly. I'd get a second opinion on both sides inner-tie-rods being bad though... You will want an alignment after doing both sides.

Floorslayer, Thanks!
I was thinking the same as you. I was little bit hesistant because I don't have a garage and I would have to do it on the streets in the cold weather of NYC at this time of the year. I read the procedure. Do you know how to remove the roll pin from the intermediate shaft?
You just need a small brass bunch and some patience to tap it out. It should come out easily though.

If I wanted to replace the inner tie rod, do I need a special to do so? I know the sell and/or rent inner tie rod removal tools. I wasn't sure if it was applicable to a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. Is it simply screwed into the rack or is it connected with some kind of extravagent configuration?
