Default '00 Grand vibrates over 40mph with loud noise

Hi there,

Our 2000 grand caravan started some problems:
after you hit about 40 mph, it starts to make a loud noise and vibrate; first starting quietly, then getting loader and rougher. the noise is like that of a punctured exhaust system. The vibration is like that of a nail protruding from the passenger side rear tire. Each gets loader as you go over 45 mph and go away when you hit the brakes, or cruise below 40 MPH. The sound and vibration appear to come from the rear, passenger side of the van.

I have tried to confirm that the vibrations start not right when you cross the 40MPH mark, but when the tac drops (like an overdrive? don't know about this stuff). but this is not certain.

The mechanic has taken apart the brakes and saw nothing; suspension looks fine, exhaust is fine. they could not replicate the problem; but they may not have been at 40+ MPH long enough...not sure.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

steve
