Default Trailer wiring converter for 2008 Caravan

On all the other vehicles I have owned, I've always just connected into the necessary tail/directional/stop light wires and depending on the vehicle, used a 4 or 5 flat wire connector for my trailer. My dealer says I can't do that on our 2008, that I have to buy a converter or it might screw up the computer. Does anyone know if this is correct or is he just trying to sell me some real expensive wire???
Thanks,
Smiley

Quite common these days. The Body computer (BCM) supplies the voltage for the tail lights on most modern vehicles. If you overload the BCM with additional lights or the trailer shorts out it 'can' fry the BCM.
This kit will provide the trailer lights with power from an auxiliary source so as not to potentially damage the BCM.
Basically its a harness with a bunch of relays. You could probably make one if you wanted to.
