Default firing order mystery

I have had four caravans and they are pretty reliable vehicles. I just got the fourth one and was looking at the distributor today. The three front spark plugs are wired adjacent on the distributor. I thought that was odd because I expected the firing order to be 1-2-3-4-5-6.
According to the numbering on the distributor cap, the firing order would have to be 1-3-5-4-6-2. I did a search on this forum and found where someone wrote in saying that the order was 1-2-3-4-5-6. I haven't had time to get a manual yet, but just out of curiosity, does anyone know the published firing order?

It is a 1999 3.0 liter v6.

The firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6 but the distributer cap has the wires routed 1-3-5-4-6-2. The inside of the cap has the traces set so the firing order is correct.
