Default Trans type 99 Dodge caravan: Base model.

3-speed 31TH automatic
3-speed A670 automatic
these are the 2 types of 3- speeds that I have found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_Caravan#Engines_3 Where would I look to be sure and if anyone know what vin code didgit it would be and what digets indicate the trans type???

This may sound like a history lesson. From the time the 3 speed transmission it was called a A670 auto trans, until 1995. Thats when chrysler change the numbers, because of the A604 trans. So now you have the 31TH. A604 41TE and when there was the 904, 999 became 42/44 RE or RH, 46RE or 46RH. The reason of the number change, because nobody wanted to buy a mini van with the A604 trans. Hope this helps you in some way. If not you can always send a pm. I am a factory trained trans tech.
