Smile 2000 Grand Caravan PTU gear lube??

Hi all,
I'm pulling out the tranny on my 2000 GC Sport AWD, and I'd like to know:
1) How do I check the level of gear oil in the Power Transfer Unit, and
2) What type of gear oil do I use?
The only info that I've found tells me to use 85w-90 gear lube, but that doesn't seem to be readily available at my local auto parts stores (they have 80w-90 and 85w-140 in abundance). Can I top off with another weight or will I have to drain the thing? Thanks in advance!!

The ptu uses 75/90w or 80/90w. There is a large fill plug that unscrew to ck the level.
