Default 3.8L whining noise coming from engine

I have a 3.8L caravan with 76,500+ miles. I just started getting a "whining" noise from the engine. In fooling around trying to figure out what is going on I pulled out the Oil dipstick and the whining immediately went away. When I reinsert the dipstick the whining starts up again within 15 to 20 seconds.

Anyone have any ideas???

Thank you.

Hmm... that's an interesting one. I just had to replace a water pump in my 3.8L at 84,000mi. It was whining too, would get higher pitched as the engine revved. At first I thought it was a bearing going bad on the drive belt tensioner, but found out the hard way down the expressway 60 mi from home that it was the water pump.
