Smell of Electrical Heat from sliding door.

Lately, after my wife and I go somewhere with the kids, we will get out and there will be a strong electrical heat smell omitting from the drivers side sliding door. The odor never gets inside the van, its only on the outside. The smell is pretty strong and is beginning to make me worry that the motor of it is going out. Has anyone else had this problem and does any one know what could be going on? No warning lights are lit up on the dash...
