Default AC Recharge, Should I try myself?

I don't much like working on cars, but I do it when I have to.
The AC in our 2003 Caravan takes some time to get cold. It gets cold enough, but it just has to run for some time.

I assume it may just need a bit of coolant. I see quite a few recharge kits are the auto parts stores. Should I give it a shot, or are AC's the kind of thing that an owner should not touch?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

You can try if you like but if you add to much freon, it can be bad for the system. Take it in, have them add a leak detection dye and recharge it. Then you will be able to find the leak easier.
