Default '01 Caravan 3.3 P0605/P0700 Code SOLUTION

Van went into limp mode with engine light on. OBDII scanner pulled P0605 & P0700 codes. Always start with the simply stuff. I checked the trans fluid. Since it was low I decided to changed the fluid and filter. Glad I did, it needed it. Second, since the sensors were $15 ea. Changed them. No luck. I then ordered a transmission control module from Auto computer exchange. Caught it on sale for $149. runs and shifts great. I'm NO mechanic but if any newbie wants a step by step, let me know. P.S. This board is a fantastic resource. Instead of getting info and disappearing, PLEASE post your fix.

you need a REAL scanner that can read transmission codes. there is no way to guess the exact answer without knowing the transmission computer is doing. the P0700 is a generic engine computer code that something is wrong with the trans. it is totally useless in diagnostics. unfortunately, this is a classic example of not having the right tool for the job.

after spending some money that didn't need to be spent. too bad you spent $149 on a computer, I've got a pile (literally) of them that I'm happy to get $20 for.

I agree with you both. Throwing parts at a problem isn't the way to go and after the sensors I thought long and hard about "trying" the TCM. After some research I found countless horror stories about $tealer$hip$ also throwing the wrong parts causing the people to return the car not fixed and transmi$$ion shops automatically signing need a rebuilt for $2000. I'm sure they have REAL scanners. Everything I've seen specific to P0605 and P0700 "pointed" (not guaranteed) to be the sensors or the TCM so due to all the above I thought the TCM was a good educated guess before I had to grabbed my ankles. Happy Thanksgiving!

For someone without FSMs who doesn't do this for a living you did damn good. If you had gone to a dealership this would have cost you at least, AT LEAST 4 times what you paid, IF they fixed it. A P0605 is a memory error within the TCM. 95% of the time a new TCM will fix it. The odds were with you. Great job bud!!!
