Default clockspring install problem

I decided too install the new clock spring today, everything went smooth except when i come too the part too release the spring.. there is a long pull tab..and i cannot see how too release this.
I am afraid i am going to break the unit prying and pulling at it.. Also can this clockspring be released after installed, or should the steering wheel be on.. it would make it harder too get at..depending how u do it.<

IF anybody has done this can you please explain the steps.. here is a picture at the top you will see a long plastic tab.
the clock spring is for a 2002 caravan.

Does the horn blow? If it doesn't, did make sure the two connectors are plugged into the clockspring thats inside the column covers.

Default clockspring

before i changed the clock spring the horn worked and cruise worked, since i put the new clock spring in they are still both working, so from what i read it could be alot of things..
I think if the clock spring is gone, there needs too be something more wrong then the airbag light on, like the horn or cruise or both..

I may try a new air bag module, but really a guessing game with having it scanned.
