Default best guess.... starter, relay or ignition switch

sometimes when I go to start my 2001 dodge caravan, I turn the key and nothing happens until i turn the key off again and try it again and then it fires right up... sometimes it takes multiple times and once the starter got stuck on after the motor started. I tried swapping the starter relay found in the fuse box with another with no change. Im leaning toward the ignition switch. Any thoughts?
Thanks

If it stuck in the on position once, probably more likely the switch. Here are the starter diagrams so if you get it to act up again you can do some testing. The ignition switch supplies the relay with power and is grounded by the PCM.

none of this is going to help you. the problem is in the starter. it's a $10 or less fix. you need new contacts on the starter solenoid. this is 99% of why these vehicles click click click and usually eventually start.

do a search in this forum. I posted a link that shows step=by=step instructions how to do this repair. you can get the parts at Toyota dealers and I'm finding some parts stores are now carrying the contacts.

Tizzy thanks for the diagram

22mopar... I got this from the link if I found the right one...
One "A" and one "B" (my P/Ns 66-82756 and 66-82759) are used on transverse 3.3 and 3.8L V6s

so i just need to go to the toyota dealer for these part numbers?
thanks

I just called the toyota dealer and those numbers mean nothing... do you know what they are?

I don't memorize part numbers, that's why they have computers and parts manuals. when I need a part, i take that part with me to the store and see if they can match it. that's how I found toyota carried the contacts. later in life, i found National Automotive in Shelbyville, IN sold them for $2 so i bought a bulk of them since this is such a very common problem. I put a set in my Cummins dodge every couple years. I keep spares in the glove box.
