Red face Electrical systems gone awry 2007 Caravan

Hi. I'm new to this site, but am hoping someone can help us. Our 2007 Dodge Caravan (not a Grand) would not start this morning. We got it boosted, took it for a drive, turned it off and it won't start. We cleaned off the battery posts, but didn't help. IMPORTANT: When it is running, the headlights flicker, the console lights flicker, and the gauges are erratic. This problem gets worse when being driven. It also won't stay on - after being boosted, it will eventually die. While being boosted, when the booster cables are still attached, there are no issues with the lights or gages. We are not sure if this is a battery, alternator, or computer problem???? PLEASE HELP.

JLHunt,

I'm sorry to learn of your starting concern.

In the event of a no-start or loss of power, there can be a number of causes responsible including a battery or alternator concern.

A diagnosis would help to pinpoint the root cause efficiently.

flickers check the ground cables to the frame an body, not just the negative cable on the battery but make sure they are both corrosion free

Jump stating it and it starts right up is a clear sign your battery is weak. Flickeing lights is another sign of a weak battery. Charge it on a charger, have it load tested or just replace it if it's 5 years old or more. You can test it yourself with a meter. Should see 12.3 volts minimum at the battery posts. 13.5 to 14.5 with the engine at idle.
