2010 GC with 62TE issues - how do I know it's the compounder?
2010 Grand Caravan with the 4.0l and 62TE. 61 months into my 60 month powertrain warranty
It has 60,000 miles.
This weekend it started making a really loud HOWLING noise from ~the driver's wheel well, right when it hits ~30 mph, or into 3rd gear.
The dealership I took it to (after $150 diagnostic fee), confirmed that it has a "transmission noise". Thanks guys. They want $1300 to "remove all the covers and see which bearing it is". I couldn't get the service advisor to even confirm or deny if he knew about the compounder bearing issues and TSB.
Since it still drives, I don't think it has totally let go. Is there anyway to confirm that it's the compounder vs a different bearing in the transmission? From what I understand, it should be "fairly simple" to replace the compounder if it's still together, and is the real issue.
I'm trying to get some considerations from Dodge, but no luck so far, so if I take it to an independent shop, I want to make sure I know what the issue is ahead of time.
Thanks for any help!

You may misdiagnose it and flush $1500. you won't find anyone outside of the dealer network who will stake their reputation on properly diagnosing a noisy compounder.you might as well wait for it to fail. a reman unit with 5yr 100k warranty will cost $1450 at Transmissions Express (add $500 for shipping for tranny and core plus $750 local labor for R&R). Total job about $2700.
