I haven't found any shorts. I checked the normal trouble spots and the ground under the starter. I checked around the front of the engine, up to the TCM connector. I removed the covering at spots that looked suspicious (two locations) but found nothing.

Is it likely that the transmission range sensor might be the culprit?

I just removed the range sensor connector to check for corrosion. When I put it back on, the boxes around the gear indicator came back.

* Update. I replaced the TRS and still no change.
