Default Transmission stuck in 2nd ?? Dodge caravan 96

Hi there, just recently bought a 96 dodge caravan v6 automatic, I know nothing about cars , but my dad does and he drove it and said that he thinks it is stuck in 2nd gear .. it idles at 600 rpm , he said it may be quietly going into 3rd but it is defintely not switching into 1st gear .. also when Im driving it in a lower speed around 30 - 40 kph it sometimes feels like a bump or a lurch and slows down a little bit .. is this something to do with transmission ..anything .. suggestions .. help ..?

Default RE: Transmission stuck in 2nd ?? Dodge caravan 96

You arte in the dreaded limp home mode If you look in this form you will find a ton about it
The tranny is meant to do this if it finds a problem.
The first thing to check is the tranny fluid level after that you better go to the dealer or a GOOD tranny shop and have the Transmissoion codes read you can not get the codes from the check engine light it has to have a ODB2 readed put on it

Hope this helps
