Default Tranny question 97 3.0 220k original tranny

Hey guys, I need some answers. I had to replace my driver side cv axle. When I pulled it out, I had a heck of a time getting the old seal out of the tranny. Finally did, put new one in, went to put new cv axle in, and the tranny had shifted so far back it was blocking the hole. It took a hell of a lot to move it back forward. Didn't even notice until then that the front tranny bracket was broken So, after much grunting, groaning, stressing, and cussing, I fixed it. It seems to be running fine. Should the tranny shifting back like that cause any problems I need to look out for? I'm just holding my breath after hearing all y'all talk about the horrors of the tranny I'm guessing it didn't break anything, as I've driven about 150 miles since, and no obvious problems. It did stop that pain in the butt fluid leak!

As long as you replace that bracket, everything should be fine. Kudos to you for keeping that 3 speed alive that long. Very impressive as it seems that they last half that usually.

You should be fine as long as new CV popped right in. I wish i had the 3 speed instead of the 4 speed, they are a much less troublesome tranny. Just out of curiosity, where exactly did the bracket break? Take Care, Jim

Ok, thanks guys. I've put another 200 on it now, and it seems to be holding up just fine. Just nervous I guess with that many miles!

The bracket that broke is the one in front of the tranny oil pan at the front of the motor. It just snapped. The other seems to be in good shape though.
