RE: 94 3.3 tranny only has reverse
If the fluid smells burnt you are probably looking at a transmission rebuild.I don't know the reason a tranny would go into reverse in two positions of the shift lever.
Try to get your old tranny rebuilt. The big chain shops just roll your tranny out and roll a rebuilt unit back in.This is the quick and easy way but you will pay for the convenience.Try to find a local shop that's clean and has a good reputation. This kind of shop will have friendly counter personel and won't be afraid (they might even insist) to show you the broken pieces of your old transmission.
The cost can be quite high, around $1,900 at the chain shops for an R&R to as low as $500 at the local rebuild shop. The low price isn't likely, you will be closer to $1,000.The chainshops usually buy their parts from rebuilders that just replace internal parts according to a list of frequently worn parts. The local shop will replace everything that's observed to be worn and will install any upgrades available.
