Default caravan sputter timing

Hi all. I have a 1997 dodge grand caravan with a 3.3 ltr. I went out and got a code reader because it would run for a few minutes after being started and then stall. Not restarting for about 5 minutes, it would turn over but not start. The codeI came up with was p0340, camshaftposition sensor circuit malfunction, so I replaced the cam sensor. Now when u try to start it, it spits, sputters and back fires as though the timing is off. When i installed the sensor imade sure that the paper spacer was installed. Any thoughts or ideas besides junking it ? suggestions appreciated thanks

my manual say for a po340 no cam signal to pcm
this made more sense to the timing being off
check the plug at the sensor and/or you may have got a defective sensor

Try replacing the crankshaft position sensor also. Both sensors share the same 5v supply and signal ground circuits. Could be tricking the PCM into thinking that the cam sensor is bad when it is really the crank sensor. By far more common than the cam sensor
