Default 2009 Challenger burned out wire

Pulled into my driveway and tuned off my car. I decided to put it in the car. I started to turn the car on using the key fob because the keyless start doesn't work. Smoke came rolling from under the hood and the car never started up. I popped the hood and found the faulty wire. The faulty wire is pink/black. From google searches I believe the wire in question is the instrument gauge ground wire. It is attached to a ground screw. The wire did melt the plastic cover in several places. It is the only wire that burned up. After finding the wire I tried starting the car again and it did start and all gauges work. I'm asking for any ideas why this would have happened? The only known electrical problem is a loose screw on the alternator positive wire. Could that have been the reason the wire burned up? Have I correctly identified the wire?
