Dodge ChargerThe Dodge Charger. The car that made its competitors shiver in the 60's is reborn in 2006 into a sleek sedan that can still send the competition home wimpering, the Dodge Charger.
I looked on here for a while and could not find the answer that I was looking for, but eventually figured it out on my own. The check engine light on my 06 Charger came on, You guessed it. A week before it needed to be smogged. Usually the light has something to do with the lack of oxygen from a reading from an O2 sensor to the computer . I have a Mopar cold air intake on my 06 Charger. So I removed the negative battery cable, this will allow the computer to reset itself after being reconnected. Then I cleaned the filter with K@N cleaning solution. After the filter was reinstalled I reconnected the negative battery cable. You have to then drive the car for a couple of days(approximately 50-100 miles) and the computer will reset all of the parameters by itself. If the dirty filter and lack of O2 to the sensor was the problem the check engine light will remain off. To check to see if the computer is reset and ready to take to have it smogged there is a test you can do. You put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on possition. DO NOT ENGAGE THE STARTER ! The check engine light will come on. Leave the key on for about 15 seconds if the light stays on for 15 seconds start the car. If the light goes out, it is ready to be smogged. If after you turn the key on the check engine light starts flasing and then stays on. The car needs to be driven more for the computer to finish resetting itself. I hope that this post helps someone out.hemihogg
