I need some engine help, '77 W200.

'77 W200 (M886 Ambulance) w/318. Starts good, idles good but when I accelerate it starts to knock and briefly dies then picks back up. If I accelerate slowly it won't do it, just when I accelerate moderately. When I'm up to speed it runs fine. Any suggestions?
