Bought my first truck ever! '77 Dodge D100/stepside :)
Well I found this truck on CL and called the guy. He was in his 70's and he bought the car from West Virginia and drove it home to Cornell, Wisconsin a few months ago. When he and his wife got home, they realized that with no power steering, it's a bitch to maneuver a camper, so they put it up for sale. My friend Laura and I took a 2.5 hour drive yesterday to check it out. It's a slant six with a 3 on the tree trans, no power options, just a basic truck. I fell in love with it! It's a horrible green with an even more horrible quality paint job. It's very solid with only a few spots of rust under the cab. The wood in the box needs to be replaced and its basically an over-all good bodywork/paint job project. I work at an upholstery shop in Duluth, MN so the interior will get a makeover with new gauges, bucket seats and door panels...all custom. I'm going to lower it (eventually) and make it a very nice driver.
As for the engine/transmission, I'm most likely going to keep the six/3-spd and try to "hot rod" it...I need to do some research on the modifications and such on the slant six, but I know they can be very potent with the right parts. Anyways, here's the truck:
And the rust issues...
And last but not least, the sweet sound system! LoL!
