Default best intake plenum??

Ok i knowthat there are a lot of post out there about these but i havent been able to really find anything about the CFM+. I know that steve likes his ats. I can get a CFM+ and a intake for 450 even though the intake is not that great i could just sell it and get one i like. but if the CFM+ is worthless then i would be better off with the ats. What are your thoughts???

Default RE: best intake plenum??

I have the CFM, ATS and stock intakes. The CFM is probably one of the best intakes out there...period. It doesn't retain heat, it's flow is the largest and smoothest of all the intakes and it's light. The omposite it's made of is probably as strong if not stronger than the cast metals used in most of the intakes.

The ATS is popular for one beause of their name. Another would be that it has several ports built into it for injection. None will do much for you though. If you get in to huge hp's then it will help but even them not much. It's just a path for the air to get to your engine. The less restriction the better.

If you're thinking of getting one... your money could really benefit more in other areas. Turbo, programmer, oil by-pass, lift pump upgrade, trans, wheels and tires. They'll all make you happier than a intake :-)

I agree with triton! I think the CFM+ is the best. Flows the most and does'nt transfer heat like the cast alum ones do. You'll get more flow and a cooler air charge. Whats not to like?

an interesting thought just occured to me... how do we know if the mild heat soak the alumimumintakes get is coming external and not internal? mine never gets hot to the touch, warm but not hot. hummm, makes me want to go experiment.

you could fry an egg on my ATS. I'm sure it's heat from both external and internal. Now the CFM on the other hand, you can hold on to it all day long as there's barely any heat since plastic isn't a conductor of heat.

I plan to remove my ATS because of what I post above. Every little tweak counts sometimes. :-)

maybe there is an opportunity for you to dyno both and tell everyone which one works better?...

Default RE: best intake plenum??

Steve, I really think the differences are going to be very insignificant. Bob4x4 at another forum did do some dyno testing on the new ATS and a stock, I'll see if I can find the post. The difference was 1 or 2 hp if that from what I remember, tq was nothing and spool up wasn't much either.

IMO... the ATS is more looks than anything else. What I will find out is if the CFM can hold up to over 700hp :-0 :-)
