Default DIY Sub install with pics...


If anyone is looking to install an amp and sub into a QC with the Infinity maybe this will help:
1) I removed the drivers side rear seat and cut a hole in the insulation large enough to accommodate the amplifier. Then sand the metal to prepare for the epoxy.
2) I used a 3/8 thick piece of plywood to make a mount for the amp.
3) I used pseudo pem nuts to attach my amp because the wood was too thin for a wood screw to get a good bite. I didn't want to use thicker wood because i was concerned about the amp hitting the seat.
4) Expoy holds the wood to the back of the cab.
5) Attach the amp.
6) To get a good signal the ONLY place you can tap into is the front door speakers, if you have the Infinity. Fairly easy though, the connector is under the dash, by the parking brake.
7) Run your cables under the carpet, and your done!

Ya, i was worried about air flow but since I was using only half the amp (4 channel available, am using 2 channels bridged) and I have greater thanthe rule of thumb 1" for convection, I think i'm ok. The amp is rated for 175 watts bridged and that is a little more than the sub (JL 8W3V3) is rated for so the gain is set to about 1/3. I've used the setup for about an hour, although at lower volumes, without problems. The only time I really turn it up is when I am cruising down the highway with the windows open and with the windows down the airflow through the cab is plentiful.

Looks good, you did a good job. Systems that are installed properly take a little more time and trouble, but sound better and have less problems. I mounted my amp under the front seat and ran the wires under the carpet, all that can be seen is the amp sticking out the back a little b/c it's so long. I tapped into the rear spekers, but they were more easliy accesible since I have a quad cab.

Thanks man.
Mine is a Quad Cab as well and I tried to tap into my rear speakers, because they are easier to access, but then I had very little bass from the sub . I had read that the Infinity amp has crossovers for each speaker location and the front door speakers and the only speakers that have 100% of thelow frequencies. Turnsout, like most times, the "short cut" takes moretime when doing a good job.
I had originally thought about putting the amp under the seat but I was worried about snowy/muddy boots kicking the amp, do you have that problem, or was I being paranoid?

Nice install! I would love to give my system an upgrade. What kind of subwoofer is that? It appears nice and compact.

When you refer to the "Infinity," does that mean the premium factory stereo? I have the basic factory stereo, so does that mean I would get the full sound input by tapping either the front or rear speakers?

Also, I have the factory "flat load floor" that folds under the seats so I guess I would have to either remove half of the flat load floor gizmo or find a different place to mount a sub.

By Infinity I mean the 7 speakerfactory premium stereo, with the regular 4 speaker setup you can tap into any speaker lead. I also have the fold flat floor. You have to remove two nuts and two of the seat's mounting bolts.
