Default Fault Code P2609 & P2509

I've got a 2007 2500 with a 5.9 CTD. A little of a month ago after the grid heater cycled while starting on a cold night, the CEL came on. Code P2609 (intake heater grid abnormal voltage drop). It started and ran fine afterward so I didn't think too much about it and after a couplefailed attempts to reset the code by leavingthe battery cables off for about 30+ min, I decided to live with it until it was convenient to take it in.

About 2 weeks ago while starting it in about 20 degree weather, the light shut itself off and stayed off until this morning when starting it in about 50 degrees temps --for some reason the intake heater light came on even though it was really warm--the CEL came back on and is now showing code P2609 again along with P2509 (ECM/PCM Power Input Signal Intermittent).

Anyone have anyexperience with this? I looked up theP2509on this forum but it looks like a while ago when someone had an issuethe dealearship was stumped. Should I be worried? Am I ok to drive and start in cold weather?

Thanks!!!

Dont know what to tell you about gettin it fixed. But my 03 cummins, the wait to start light comes on no matter what the temp is outside. It just goes off faster than when its colder.

Both of these could be caused by weak batteries or loose cable connections. I would check all battery cables. Could also be caused if + cable is shorted to ground....You should take it in if its under warranty, there is a diagnostic flow chart to help diagnosis this.... Hope this helps...

if I remmeber from a little digging I did find that te 2509 code is set when one or both batteries are weak or dead. this would be the first place I would look.

P2509 has a TSB 18-001-07 which is a flash and P2609 you may have an open battery wire or short, P2609 no voltage drop seen from intake air heaters.

Code 2609:
Took the truck in to the dealer and they found bad ground at intake heater, so they replaced the intake heater gaskets, engine light is off now..and added the F19 roll over hose recall.

I believe that was my truck, the dealer had the truck for a month they ended up replacing the ECM after 2 new batteries twice, new wiring harness, grid heater, battery temp sensors, and some other crap. The truck has been great since.

There were a few guys trying to figure out how to get the instruments to go thru their light check cycle.
Most of you know, but if you dont, all you do is push the odometer reset in and turn the key on then let off the reset.. Dont start the truck.
Works every time.

I had dead batteries this morning and got a p2509 code. I jumped the truck and let it idle for a few minutes and reset the code. The truck starts and the light is out.
I was lucky, so far......no new batteries.
