Default Question for the Diesel guys

I dont want to start a war so dont flame me too bad

I am going to be buying a Dodge Dually Diesel for a work truck. Its life is going to be spent hooked to eather a gooseneck or fifth wheel enclosed trailer. I am trying to decide between a 12v and a 24v. Which is easier to mod and has the most potential?

12 valve. You wont have the problematic VP44, and the highest powered trucks out there, and all the big time sled pullers, use a mechanical pump, either a P7100 or Sigma...get a 98 12 valve and you get the newer interior and the quad cab too...

no other comments? is 98 the only year they had the new interior, quad cab and 12valve? I think they switched to 24v in 99 right?

Yes, 98 is the only year they had the new interior, quad cab, and 12 valve. Mid-year 98 (98.5 trucks) are 24valves

Basically they might as well have said, "good luck finding one" lol. Personally if i go 12v I would go old body style. Just seems to be a little more durable, and easier to find. Good luck in your quest.

I can find 94-98 12 valves for sale everywhere...98s arent that hard to find. Easier than an 89-93 in good condition

I also want to get a manual trans. did the pre-98's have the 4 doors or is it 2 door extended cabs with fixed sides? I am used to the newer style interior since I had an 01 1500 off road that was totaled and drive a 99 2500 service body gasser for work at the power company. I have been looking at the pickup trader the past few days and not much older than 2000 is in there around here but lots of 2000-2007 dually diesels and the most expencive I have seen is $25k with 25k miles

Nothing earlier than 98 has the four door Quad Cab. Their all regular cab or Club Cabs; extended cab but no rear doors. 98 was the first year for the Quad Cab.
