My father-in-law just purchased a 2005 2500 Cummins diesel, 6sp, 4x4, long bed. He is wanting to know what he can do to improve his fuel mileage given current cost of diesel. He has owned Cummins Dodge's almost exclusively for farm and ranch use, but has never done any mods before.
Thanks.

I sure others here will have some suggestions, but you could check http://www.turbodieselregister.com/ I'm sure they'll have some info about what can be done.
since my Cummins now has 13500 on it I can tell the mileage is getting better tank by tank, it's not a huge improvement, but it is there. once the piston rings fully seat, and some other parts wear in the mileage will go up.
Ive got 4.10's on mine so I'm running a bit on the high side of the RPM range, Ive been thinking about getting an overdrive gear set, but my taxes are chewing into that one this year[:@]

BIG THANKS to David and the guy's at James O'neal Dodge.
YOU GUY'S ROC
First off is it the H/O or the 600, either way have him look into the EDGE EZ for the H/O or the juice for the 600. Ive got a 2003 dually with the H/O and got the EZ for it and ive picked up 2-3 mpg with it as long as i can keep my foot out of it(its hard with 70 hp and 220 ftlb0 you can tell the difference. theres also fuel additives with help but nothing worth noticing. just an idea
