Default engine block cracked

the engine block cracked on my 1999 2500 4x4 cummings 103000 miles am truck driver ( drove cummings for years) . It cracked on outside of block antifreez blew out caught it soon enought so no engine damage. Rebuilt long block installed 8000.00 dollars. Still like my Dodge but have'nt heard of this happening to any body else. Is this a common problem?

Sounds like a VERY COMMON "53" block problem.

Just do a google search for Cummins 53 block and see what you find.

Then go here.... http://www.locknstitch.com/

and more specifically, this http://www.locknstitch.com/cummins_5_9_block.htm
