I have a 2006 Dodge 2500 that has about 70k miles on it and I've been having this problem since at least 30K, maybe before that. My truck always dies when the fuel gauge gets down to 3/8 of a tank. It cranks like it has no fuel, but will eventually start back up. It also has no power, spits and sputters and cuts out and smokes really bad. Above 3/8 of a tank of fuel has no probelms at all though.
The local dodge service department says that the fuel is contaminated, but I can hardly believe that because it only ever happens at 3/8 or less, never with more fuel in the tank. And I had the tank dropped and cleaned at the 30K mark and it did not solve the problem but I couldn't get the truck back into the shop right away for them to fix.
It has had the fuel filter replaced multiple times and a fuel injection flush and these have resolved nothing.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be?

When you fuel up at 3/8 of a tank, how many gallons are you putting in? Your truck has a 34 gallon tank. There have been a few problems with the fuel level sender being out of adjustment or broke.
