Default Help with 5 speed issue for a 99 cummins?

Im ok with the simple stuff on trucks but i need help on this. Fifth gear has went out on my 1999 dodge with the 5.9 cummins and a five speed transmission. I have heard this is a common issue, a nut backing off of a pin making the gear unusable. most people say they have had mechanics say they drill through the pin and put another pin in to keep the nut from backing off. how should i fix this?

I cleaned the nut and the threads on the shaft with brake clean, then used lock tight to secure the nut.

the revised nut from dodge uses locktite and when torqued you tighten a screw in the nut to tighten it tighter to the shaft that is a fix have used on customer trucks and have never seen one back again
