long story short, i miss my 5.9, it was run over by a semi in a parking lot. i replaced with a 1500 rcsb 4x4 sport. a fun little truck. wife and daughter are buying some horses and now my truck is too small for towing. thinking about waiting for the 2013 with the urea fluid for better mpg, less soot in the turbo and maybe normal 5000 mile oci. current 6.7 owners, any thoughts on my plan to wait? tks all

 

I think on the 13's they are going to have the DEF diesel exhaust fluid added to it...I know all the new tractors we are getting in at work ( Volvo, International, Kenworth) Are all going to haver the DEF. Kinda sucks...but whatever making those dam liberals happy...If I were you Id go buy an early 07 or older with some decent miles on it and you can have that 5.9...best diesel engine ever made...hands down...

 

I dunno, the P7100 12v guys might argue with you about that...

or even the 24v guys that converted to p7100 pumps lol...

I got no prob with my VP44 and I guarantee it will start in less cranks than any p-pumped or CR motor hehe


personally I would go with an 03 or 04 if going for a CR motor...no emissions controls.

or 2nd gen 24v's also have no emission controls..

 

Forget any truck produced after 2004. The models after that have been ruined by the goverment trying to re-burn your exhaust and it cannot be done. The dammage to the entire truck engine is well known and until your warrenty runs out nothing after market can give you relief.

 

There's some obvious misinformation on here about emissions and it's driving me nuts......

Emissions controls came in January 2007 with the 6.7; external EGR and DPF. Bad.

The catalytic converter and "in-cylinder" EGR (a function of engine programming, a la the third injection, and the cam profile) don't constitute much of emissions controls.

Where this crap that anything after 04 is evil and loaded with emissions started, I don't know. Emissions started in 07.5. Any 5.9 is pretty much emissions free.


Repeat after me....07.5 07.5 07.5 07.5 07.5 07.5 07.5. Or, just 6.7 6.7 6.7 6.7 6.7 6.7 6.7

 

Now, as for the 2013, it's still an uncomfirmed rumor or logical guess as to urea coming to the pickups. Nothing has been announced. As to the good/bad? I'm still on the fence; the Ford and GM guys seem split themselves, some say it's a big improvement, some don't see much if any improvement, and some have problems with it.

Would I be scared to buy a 2013 with urea? No. And if it was really that bad, I'd delete it all. I'm still fully against all the emissions crap they saddled these trucks with

 

I stopped by the Dodge dealer last week and asked about the 2013 trucks and was told they do not believe they will have DEF on them. Of course that could all change, but it sounded pretty positive that they would not.

 

I agree go with something older. Some people like to have a new flashy truck but me personally I like to have a older truck that I can work on without a bunch of bs in my way. Some of those 6.7's that are supposed to be getting better mpg, are getting what my 02 does with me being hard on it. My buddy can get 22 out of his 02 on the highway. I can only squeeze 20 since I have the 4.10's
