Took my truck to the shop because it started running bad and died it wouldn't restart. well shop scanned it and got trouble codes for EGR excessive Flow and EGR stuck open. sound that if the EGR valve is removed from the intake the truck will crank and run just fine. so they cleaned all EGR components with the dodge EGR cleaning solution and still wouldn't run if egr was installed so changed the egr valve with one off of another truck ( a known good one) still does the same thing. guy at shop is now bumfuggled and stumped a lil help please. I need my truck.

Got it fixed problem was turbo was so stopped up that the only way the engine was running was exhausting through the little one inch pipe that runs from the exhaust to the egr valve. They showed me the old turbo full of carbon and clogged up. Never would have guessed it cause truck ran fine one minute killed it to fuel up and it got hard to start and wouldn't run.
and people still want to argue that the 6.7L's are great trucks....
problems like this are completely unheard of on the 5.9L's of any generation.
anyway...A tip for you fatboy since you are stuck with a 6.7L
stop babying the truck. the easier you drive it, the more problems you are going to have.
if you want to prevent soot buildup you need to run it hard. drive it like you stole it and get that exhaust HOT. get an EGT gauge and load up and pull a long grade and try to hold 1200* on the pyro for as long as you can. that will literally start burning off all of the soot buildup in your exhaust.
