Default Just Bought a 1990 Cummins

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a 1990 Dodge Ram LE 250 Cummins Turbo Diesel. I was wondering if anyone had suggestion of things to look over or get checked out before I start driving the truck very often.

The truck has almost 284000 on it and had a plow put on at some point (now taken off). Body isn't in great shape but isn't horrible either. Its a 5spd manual 4x4 with power options, ABS, and A/C. It's all stock accept for the cold air intake and I was told the turbo is from a 2006 Cummins.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Run a fuel additive and drive it.

I second both above.

2cycle oil is IMO the only thing you need to run in the fuel. Ill run a mopar additive every now and then.

I imagine the front end is worn with that plow. Steering slop is common in first gens. Mainly in the steering shaft coupler, those things are junk. But I imagine more is worn depending on how long a plow was used.

They are pretty solid trucks though. They will have electrical issues. KDP is one of the biggest problems that could possibly destroy your engine so you should look into fixing that
