Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction P0216
I am looking at a 1999 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel 5 Speed. It has 242,000 miles on it. I had the codes ran on it and it came up as P0216 which is Injection Timing Control Circuit Malfunction. What does that mean? I have been told acouple of things that it could mean, but I want to know before I buy it and have to put 2,000 dollars worth of fuel pumps on it. Does anyone have any idea???

P0216 is the VP44 first death cry's.
if you want to slam down the money for a new pump it's up to you, I personaly would walk away since the lift pump is probably toast as well and that is what killed the VP44.
even Cummins has stated the VP44 was a weak pump. if the lift pump died or starts to die and deprives the VP44 of diesel it will fry. I'm willing to say you also had a P0253 code as well (Fuel injection pump fuel valve open circut). this code usualy pops up before the P0216. the VE, P7100, and the new CP3 pumps are considerably more robust when it comes to lift pump problems. the CP3 is the only pump that can actualy draw its own fuel, but lives a better life under positive fuel pressure from the lift pump.

Hi i also got the same code p0216 and i was wondering could it be the fuel pump i herd that it goes out alot and also is there any way i can check if the pump is working or not? cuz my truck wont go faster 25MPH lack of power and if i push the gas pedal down lots of smoke comes out and it seems to slow down so if you no whats wrong or even something i should check please reply tnx!!!!
