Default Differential & transfer case question

What are the oil capacities for the front and rear differentials and the transfer case on a 99 2500 CTD 4x4? I just need to know how much to buy ahead of time.

Also, is friction inhibiter needed in either the front or rear and if so, what brands of gear oil comes with it? Mobil I, Castrol, Amsoil, etc.????

for the diffs of your 99, the front which is a DANA 60, 7.8 pts. (3.6 L ) of either 75w90 for normal driveing, or 75w150 if it is used for towing, and for the rear, it is either a DANA 80, but you will need 10.1 pints ( 4.79 L ) of the same weight, and add 10 oz of friction modifier DANA 70 takes 7.75 pints ( 3.666 L ) and 8oz friction modifier.

as for the transfer, it realy depends on which one you have as to how much Dextron II you need, I'll list them all and the capacity for ya.

NV231 & HD 2.5pt
NV241 & D 4.7pt
NV241HD 6.5pt
NV271 4.0pt

any oil will work, just make sure you add the friction modifier to the rear if the oil you get doesnt come with any. also, the front doesnt need the friction modifier.

You only need friction modifier if you have a limited slip differential.

Dexron II was replaced by Dexron III...I run a full synthetic ATF in the tcase all of my trucks.
