Hi Krystalmpace,

I'm sorry you're having this experience. We do have STAR case S1508000292 on file for 2010 Journeys, so your dealership should be able to look that up and see if it applies to your vehicle. It involves inspecting the horn switch, pad, and wiring harness. If you need help making an appointment, please let me know.

Fsession and inspection
I have been dealing with this for 2 years. I replace my fuses just before I get to inspection . Once it has passed I remove the fuses again. I feel this is dangerous to run around without a horn but have no other choice . I am afraid if the horn goes off while driving . With road rage on the increase I don't know what is the least dangerous. Good luck.

Horn
Kori, what does it mean there is a STAR case. I have been dealing with this problem for 2 yrs. I drive around with out the fuse in place. in many situations I need my horn to avoid accidents. I also feel that with the horn going off randomly while on the road places me in danger. I don't want to place myself in a situation where road rage can become a factor. I don't want to place myself or passengers in where a mere case of random honking can be life threatening . My vehicle is no longer under warranty and do not have extended warranty . So will this come out of my pocket . Thank you for your assistance .

Default Horn Honking by Itself

Have had the same issue with my 2010 Dodge Journey. Took it to our mechanic and they diagnosed the problem successfully. It is being caused by a defective Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). Replacing the part costs $850, and with labor it would come to nearly $1000. And of course, you're just replacing one defective TIPM with another that is highly likely to fail as well.

Unfortunately this is a widespread problem for Chrysler vehicles, and some estimate that over a million vehicles have the problem:

Of course Dodge has yet to own up to the problem. Even when I called the dealership they said they'd never heard of it. Major Trustbuster. I will never buy Chrysler again.

There are NOT a million Journeys with a horn problem. I'm glad you learned how to use Google and pull up articles from 2012 and 2014. Sorry your car cost money to maintain. Guess you should have went for the extended warranty.

Sorry if I touched a cord there TNtech! I really don't have an opinion when it comes to the actual numbers (because no one knows), just wanted to share that I had found a solution to a problem that has been driving me insane for months now. Figured that was the purpose of forums like this.

Didn't mean to make it sound like there were a million Journeys with a horn problem. That said, the second article I posted does state that some estimate that over a million Chrysler vehicles have defective TPMs:

"It’s widely believed that hundreds of thousands (or millions according to some) of 2007–2014 Chrysler vehicles have defective TIPMs that are putting owners in dangerous and sometimes just odd situations."

According to my mechanic, his parts seller told him that they sell over 100 TIPMs per month. Bottom line is that this is a common issue.

Call me crazy, but in my opinion we should not be dealing with porblems like this nearly 100 years after the release of the Model T, regardless of "extended warranties".

Default 2010 Journey Horn issues

I have been back and forth with Scott Robinson Dodge in Torrance, CA and Dodge Customer Care and they both say there is nothing they can do til they can find a way to replicate the problem in my car. It's been in the shop 3 times in less than a year and it still honks by itself. Dodge won't take ownership of the problem and the "case managers" are only there to smooth things over and appease you. Fuses have been replaced along with the TCM(?) and they tell me that my car is fine. OH, but here's the kicker......If I go out and record the honking when it starts, it might help them to determine what sets it off. REALLY?!

I would suggest all of us flood Dodge with phone calls so they have to take notice.

Any suggestions would be great.

Hi Odilia,

I'm sorry I missed this post. A STAR case is a past case that was managed by corporate technicians that dealerships can use to help diagnose and repair a vehicle. Your dealership is able to look this up to see if it applies to your vehicle and then follow the steps for repair. Based on your post, I'm not sure if you've been to the dealership to have this addressed, but I would suggest doing so ASAP so you're not driving with unplugged fuses.
